I must admit the deluge of Christmas advertising is starting to get to me already. By the end of the second week of November surely its still way too early to be seeing so many Christmas themed commercials? Call me a traditionalist but the accepted norm going back to the 80’s, of the 3rd week of November, seems to have gone out of the window with the result that I’m already blanking the Tesco ad, John Lewis is making me grind my teeth again and Asda has become a channel changer.
I’m envious of the weights these brands can throw behind their marketing efforts at this time of year, no doubt encouraged by the TV sales houses but for the Boomers like me that actually do the spending, I’m not so sure they’ve got the balance right. I’m already at the point where I’ve seen the ads 10+ times and I am a light TV viewer.
Our retail bursts for the fabulous Jewellers of London’s historic Hatton Garden doesn’t air till next week. We’re deliberately avoiding the rush as we need to get some standout. So when you see our busses and hear our radio ads you’ll know that our relatively small budgets have been meticulously planned.

6 November – Very.co.uk takes inspiration from Frozen for second ‘Get more out of giving’ Christmas ad
2 November – Caffè Nero launch mobile Christmas crackers
1 November – Holidays (and the Coca-Cola truck) are coming
1 November – Vodafone tells the story of a festive romance with the guy off The Office
